Lake Ray Hubbard News: Texas State Parks To Allow Overnight Camping

Texas State Parks will begin allowing overnight camping beginning May 18, according to a news release by Texas Parks & Wildlife. The plan is part of a wider effort to reopen the state of Texas.

Limited Reservations

Limited overnight camping is scheduled to begin allowing for limited reservations at Texas State Park locations. Each overnight camping site location will follow guidelines based on occupancy levels. Occupancy will be allowed in such a way as to prevent overcrowding and still hold the ability to manage social distancing. For more info, when the reservations will be allowed for online booking, please visit the Texas Parks & Wildlife website.

Continued & Frequent Cleanliness

Each park location will maintain continued and frequent cleanliness for visitors. The primary goal is to ensure all visitors will have access to safe campsites, cabin areas, and restroom locations. Safety for visitors and staff is of the utmost importance.

Visitor Guidance

Visitors are encouraged to maintain safe social distancing practices. And, they are to continue to adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines for travel. Recommendations continue to include wearing facemasks, hand wash regularly, and use hand sanitizer as needed. Group gatherings are limited to no more than five people.

Pre-Purchase Day Passes & Overnight Camping Permits

All visitors and travelers to Texas State Parks must purchase day-passes and overnight camping permits ahead of time online. Print your physical copy before heading to the park of choice. You will be required to present this to the staff upon request. For more info, please call 512-389-8900.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 9)

GOOD. Water stained; 85 degrees; 0.07 feet below pool. White bass have been fair in the mornings with surface activity on the common flats. Throw small swim baits, tail spinners or rattletraps. Later in the morning white bass are moving out to deeper water on long points, road beds and levees. Crappie are slow and relating to brush piles 12-18 feet of water. Crappie are showing up at bridge columns and they are moving around drop off going from structure to structure. Catfish are good in wooded timber 15-18 feet with prepared punch bait. Chumming will help bring the schools into your areas. Report by John Varner, John Varner's Guide Service.
